|HOST DOUG THOMPSON: Doug
began his racing career in the summer of 1969. He won his first
feature event in 1972 at Topeka Raceway. He raced late models
throughout the central states. He also created the mini-stock class after he and Roger purchased the race track now known as
Whiskey Lake Raceway. Over the years Doug has won 355 feature events, 9 track championships, won the Hutchinson Nationals in 1988 and 1992 and won
the Kansas State Title on several occasions.
In the mid 90's, Doug and his crew participated in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series. He finished 19th nationally in points. Doug finished 10th in the 1st NASCAR race at Homestead Speedway and raced in the last NASCAR race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. He also raced in the NASCAR Truck Series and his team raced in the first NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway. Doug also raced in the ARCA Pro 4 Series and the ARCA truck series finishing 2nd in Michigan.
By proclamation, the Governor of Kansas designated Doug's racing team, The Kansas Racing Team the official racing team of Kansas.
Doug and his wife, Connie have 3 children, Tom, Allison and Taylor.
Doug and Connie own Kansas Racing Products which manufactures the "Super Duty" racing block, crankshafts and in-take manifolds.
Doug and Connie also developed the Kansas Auto Racing Museum at the Kansas Auto Racing Complex at Chapman, Kansas.
Doug is an attorney, Municipal Judge for the City of Abilene, administrative hearing officer for the 8th Judicial District, Dickinson County Counselor, City of Chapman attorney and President of Church Council for Emmanuel Church in Abilene.
Doug previously was owner/editor of the Jayhawk Racing Journal, Wrote "The Kansas Racing Atlas" in 1974, owned a syndicated radio program called "In the Pits" and is owner of GRS.
Doug stated, "I absolutely love the concept for GRS. I wish there could have been a show like this available 45 years ago when I was getting into racing. This is a fantastic opportunity for the racing industry across Kansas."
HOST ROGER THOMPSON: Roger began his racing career in the summer of 1961 while still in high school at Chapman, Kansas. His first race car was a 1956 "Hobo". He raced the Buick for 2 years; then raced a 1932 Ford 5 window coupe jalopy for 1 year; a 289 ci Ford Super modified; and in 1967 began racing super modifieds for the Schippert family of Junction City, Kansas
Roger raced the Schippert cars for 11 years, including cars built by Walt McWhorter, Jack Walker and Don Edmunds.
Roger also raced late models throughout the central states and is highly regarded for his chassis expertise.
In the late 70's and 80's, he teamed up with good friend Bob McCall of New Cambria, Kansas to race sprint cars built by Laverne Nance and later sprints built by Doug Wolfgang.
Over his racing career, Roger has won hundreds of feature events in late-models, super-modifieds and winged sprints.
Doug and Roger presently run 2 Wolfgang sprints and Roger intends to race both during the 2011 season. He will also joint the Vintage Racing guys in Central Kansas to compete in super modified and sprint races with friends Bob McCall, Lynn Anderson, Kenny Tatro and Scotty Anderson.
Roger states, "My family has always been involved in racing and this is an excellent opportunity to help the Grassroots racing community across our state."
